With the theme "Striving together for a thriving industry", the International Biopharma Industry Week 2023 opened on October 16th. Gong Zheng, Deputy Secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, lit up the launching system.
At the opening ceremony, Wang Jiangping, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Chen Jie, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, and Huang Guo, Deputy Director of National Medical Products Administration delivered speeches, and Paul Sinclair, President of International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) addressed a speech via video. Zhu Zhisong, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Secretary of CPC Pudong New Area Committee, and Carl Barry Sharpless, laureate of Nobel Prize in Chemistry, were present.
Biopharma is one of the three leading industries in Shanghai, which is also a strategic emerging industry related to the national economy and people's livelihood. In recent years, Shanghai has continuously consolidated the foundation of biopharma research and development, made great efforts to build a world-class biopharma industry cluster, and made great progress. In the past five years, the number of Class I innovative drugs and Class III innovative medical devices listed in Shanghai accounted for one quarter and one sixth of the national total respectively, ranking first in the country. The size of Shanghai’s biopharma industry has achieved double-digit growth for three consecutive years.
Adhering to the concept of "high-end, characteristic and internationalization", this week sets an industry benchmark with innovative achievements and leads the industry trend with top-notch enterprises, which is conducive to continuously promoting the energy level upgrading of Shanghai's strategic emerging biopharma industries, giving full play to Shanghai's open hub portal function, and promoting the convergence, integration and innovation of global biopharma forward-looking ideas and cutting-edge technologies in Shanghai. This week was held in Shanghai from October 16th to 20th, including opening activities and nearly 40 events, and will form a regular pattern of "5+360" activities around the year.
