The World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2022 (WAIC 2022) kicked off on September 1st at Shanghai World Expo Center. Li Qiang, Secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, attended the opening ceremony. Jin Zhuanglong, Secretary of the Party Group of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, delivered a speech via video. Gong Zheng, Deputy Secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, addressed a speech at the opening ceremony. Jiang Zhuoqing, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, and Dong Yunhu, Chairman of Shanghai CPPCC, attended the event.
Before the opening ceremony, municipal leaders and leaders of relevant ministries and commissions came to the exhibition halls of WAIC 2022, visited the Core Metaverse Exhibition and the booths of CITIC Group, Huawei and other companies, inspected the latest innovations and application scenarios in the field of artificial intelligence, especially metaverse, and communicated with enterprise leaders and R&D teams.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Jin stressed in his speech that in recent years, China's artificial intelligence has accelerated its development and formed a complete industrial system. Shanghai is the highland of innovation and development of artificial intelligence in China. WAIC has become an important platform to promote exchanges and cooperation in intelligent industries. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will, in accordance with the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, adhere to technological breakthroughs and application expansion as the main direction, strengthen research and development, consolidate intelligent facilities, expand application scenarios, optimize industrial ecology, promote the deep integration of artificial intelligence and the real economy, and achieve high-quality development.
Mr. Gong pointed out in his speech that we will take the digital transformation of the city as the traction, speed up the layout of new racetracks, cultivate new kinetic energy, further activate the driving force led by innovation, build a benchmark for application demonstration, foster an open and integrated ecosystem, launch a new exploration of digital governance, and make every effort to build a world-class industrial cluster as well as "Shanghai Highland" of artificial intelligence with greater international influence.
The opening ceremony was held both online and offline, by means of video connection and results release. Zou Ciyong, Director of Department of Programmes, Partnerships and Field Integration of UNIDO, and representatives of internationally renowned industry organizations and scientists delivered speeches respectively. At the opening ceremony, 100 typical application scenarios of artificial intelligence, the results of the Outstanding Artificial Intelligence Leader Award 2022 and the major scenarios in metaverse were released.
Zhong Zhihua, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Shu Wei, Party Member and Secretariat Secretary of China Association for Science and Technology, and leaders of Shanghai Municipal Government, including Wu Qing, Zhu Zhisong, Zhang Wei, Xiao Guiyu and Qian Feng, attended the opening ceremony.
Leaders from relevant ministries and commissions, central enterprises, universities and relevant departments and districts in Shanghai attended the event. Well-known experts, scholars, business executives and investors from the field of artificial intelligence at home and abroad participated the event on site or online.
The World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2022 was held in Shanghai from September 1st to 3rd with the theme of "Intelligent connectivity, infinite multiverse". During the Conference, experts from relevant industries were invited to present their views and exchange ideas around industrial development and technological innovation. More than 10 industry theme forums were held, focusing on scientific and technological innovation, commercialization and security governance. It will also launch special activities for the 5th anniversary of WAIC, project roadshows, investment and financing matchmaking meetings and other activities, create an intelligent and efficient conference management system, share intelligent application scenarios, fully demonstrate artificial intelligence technologies and products, and promote the ecological construction of artificial intelligence.
