On the afternoon of March 1st, Jiang Zhuoqing, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, led a team to visit and investigate Shanghai Synthetic Biology Innovation Strategic Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the "Alliance"), and listened to the report of relevant units of the Alliance.
At the workshop, the Alliance reported its operation and recent work plan. Yang Shengli, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Deng Zixin and Zhao Guoping, Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Feng Yan and Lin Shuangjun, Professors of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ye Haifeng, Professor of East China Normal University, Wang Yong from the Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other representatives conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions around the background and mission of the Alliance, the role of synthetic biology in molecular diagnosis and treatment innovation and natural medicine source innovation, the key issues of synthetic biology innovation and startup park and the integrated development of "production, education and research", and relevant policy support suggestions.
Mr. Jiang pointed out that it is important to follow the decisions and arrangements of the Central Committee and CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee on the development of biomedical industry in Shanghai, rely on the ecological environment of Shanghai’s biomedical industry development, give full play to the professional and technical capabilities and resource integration functions of Shanghai Synthetic Biology Innovation Strategic Alliance, learn from the beneficial practices at home and abroad, explore the construction of a basic supporting R&D platform for the agglomeration of innovation elements in the biomedical industry, promote the deep integration of production, education and research in synthetic biology, and boost the biomedical manufacturing industry in Shanghai to become bigger and stronger. Shanghai’s task force of biomedical industry promotion should take the initiative to serve the industry, strengthen coordination, solve problems and promote development.
