The world's first demonstration project of 35 kV KM-grade superconducting cable was officially put into operation in Shanghai on December 22nd, 2021, marking a major breakthrough in key technologies in the field of new power system construction in China and solving the challenge of narrow channel and large capacity transmission.
Gong Zheng, Deputy Secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, attended the launching ceremony and announced the commissioning. Dong Yunhu, Chairman of Shanghai CPPCC, and Zhang Zhigang, General Manager of State Grid, unveiled the Shanghai Superconducting Manufacturing Innovation Center, and Zhang Wei, Deputy Mayor, delivered a speech.
With the total length of 1.2 kilometers and the design current of 2,200 amperes, it creates a series of standards for the production, testing, design and construction of superconducting cables, and lays a foundation for the popularization and application of superconducting cables.
The demonstration projectof 35 kV KM-grade superconducting cable in Shanghaiis located between Changchun Substation and Caoxi Substation at Xuhui District, with the total length of 1.2 kilometers and the design current of 2,200 amps. It is the first superconducting transmission project built by State Grid in China, and it is also a 35 kV high-temperature superconducting cable with the largest transmission capacity, the longest length and full commercial operation in the world. The demonstration project aims at realizing the engineering application of superconducting cables, in order to study the key technologies of superconducting cable system. Through a series of tests, a large number of data on electrical, mechanical and superconducting characteristics of superconducting cables have been acquired. Many findings have been the first in the world, forming a series of standards for the production, testing, design and construction of superconducting cables, and laying a foundation for the popularization and application of superconducting cables.
Accelerate the construction ofsuperconducting manufacturing innovation centers, actively expand superconducting applications, and strive to build a superconducting industry highland with global influence.
Superconducting industry is one of the emerging industries cultivated in Shanghai. In the past 15 years, Shanghai has continuously supported the R&D and industrialization of high-temperature superconductivity, and the departments of science, technology and industry have jointly made efforts to bring Shanghai the most comprehensive superconducting cable industry chain in China. Shanghai will continue to carry out follow-up research, promote the transformation of superconducting cables from "samples" to "products", speed up the construction of superconducting manufacturing innovation centers, actively expand superconducting applications, and make every effort to build a superconducting industry highland with global influence.
