According to the release of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), at present, the fixed gigabit broadband in Shanghai has covered 9.6 million households with 99% coverage. The average available download rate of fixed broadband is 50.32M, which is the first city in China to exceed 50M.All of the three major telecom operators regard Shanghai as the first city of 5G network. Shanghai has built 31,400 5G outdoor base stations and 49,800 5G indoor small stations. Shanghai has achieved 5G continuous coverage in central urban areas and suburban key areas, with an average download rate of over 300M, up to over 800M in key areas. In terms of network infrastructure capacity, network coverage and user perception, Shanghai has taken the lead in building a "Double Gigabit Broadband City".
On November 11th, "Double Gigabit Broadband City" Development Summit Forum 2020 was held in Shanghai. Under the guidance of CAICT, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, and Shanghai Communications Administration, the forum was jointly sponsored by Shanghai Telecom, Shanghai Mobile, Shanghai Unicom, Shanghai Tower and Oriental Cable. It aims to accelerate the construction of new-generation network infrastructure such as 5G and F5G (the fifth-generation fixed communication network)and enable the high-quality development of urban social economy. Relevant leaders were present, including Wu Jincheng, Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Liu Duo, President of CAICT and Secretary General of Broadband Development Alliance, Zhang Jianming, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, and XieYuqi, Deputy Director of Shanghai Communications Administration.
