On August 27th, the first meeting of Shanghai biomedical industry development leading group in 2020 was held. Wu Qing, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, was present and made a speech. Chen Mingbo, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal Government, presided over the meeting. Liu Ping, Chief Engineer of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, reported relevant work on behalf of the leading group office.
Mr. Wu made plans on further playing the role of the leading group and accelerating the high-quality development of Shanghai's biomedical industry. He pointed out that focusing on the development of three leading industries like biomedicine is an important task of General secretary Xi Jinping to hand over to Shanghai. As an important part of national economy, biomedical industry is closely related to people's health and quality of life. In particular, the outbreak of COVID-19 this year has brought more urgent realistic demands for the high quality innovation and development of the biomedical industry. He asked that the next step should focus on three aspects of work: first, it is important to grasp the trend, build consensus and seize the strategic opportunities for industrial development. Second, it is necessary to focus on key points and implement precise policies to accelerate the development of the industry. Third, it is wise to promote the implementation of the plan as a whole to ensure that all work is carried out in a detailed manner.
The "Implementation Plan on Promoting the Characteristic Development of Biomedical Industry Park" was presented and passed on the meeting. It is also planned to add some members of the leading group and establish the biomedical industry advisory expert committee. On the meeting, there was also a report on the establishment of Shanghai biomedical industry promotion workforce.
At the meeting, Shanghai Ecological Environment Bureau, Shanghai Drug Administration and Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center made exchange speeches on supporting the development of biomedical industry. Relevant heads from units of the municipal leading group for biomedical industry development attended the meeting.
