From February 28th to March 1st, Zhu Xiumei, Deputy Director General of Department of Science and Technology of MIIT, conducted research on Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Research in Shanghai. Zhang Ying, Chief Engineer of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, was present.
The Department visited several AI enterprises including Cloudwalk, Shanghai Qiniu Information Technologies Co., Ltd. , YITU, Yi Xue Education, Fullhan Microelectronics, and SenseTime. The team focused on the research of the applications of AI technology in health care and education. What's more, they experienced the achievements of "AI+ applications" like face recognition. The team also had a deep understanding of the applications of AI in the fields of smart city, unmanned driving, internet security and big data. The team also visited Zhangjiang Artificial Intelligence Island and listened to the development ideas and layout planning on the deep integration of AI industry and real economy. Last but not least, the team visited some scientific research institutions including Shanghai Integrated Circuit Research and Development Center Ltd. (ICRD), Shanghai Institute of Medica , Chinese Academy of Science, and Shanghai Micro Electronics Equipment (Group) Co., Ltd. (SMEE) and understood the development of basic research on integrated circuit chips.
During the research, Ms. Zhu listened to the report of the Commission on the development of artificial intelligence and basic research work. She also communicated with Mao Junfa, Academician from Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as units including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd, and Shanghai Electric Group Company Limited. Ms. Zhu affirmed the development of AI and basic research in Shanghai and proposed that the next step would be to give full play to the role of policy and market mechanism to guide the innovation and development of AI industry.
