On the morning of February 18th, the Commencement Ceremony of 5G Railway Station Construction and the Launch Ceremony of 5G DIS Indoor Digital System was held at Hongqiao Railway Station in Shanghai. Zhang Jianming, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, was present and made a speech. This event was under the guidance of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization as well as Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, co-sponsored by Shanghai Railway Station,China Mobile(Shanghai), Huawei, Shanghai JiaoTong University and Shanghai Tietong Broadband. It is reported that Hongqiao Railway Station plans to complete the deep coverage of 5G network this September, which also marks that Shanghai has launched its 5G network deployment. At the ceremony, Huawei released its 5G DIS Indoor Digital System for the first time.
At the ceremony, Mr. Zhang expressed that Shanghai is actively building a "Dual Gigabit Broadband City" and vigorously promoting 5G network construction and application demonstration. Hongqiao Railway Station will become the first railway station to use 5G indoor digital system, which will become a model for 5G new technology to benefit the public and improve the management efficiency of railway stations. The Municipal Government will implement 5G application demonstration project in more industries, generate effects through the connection between 5G and all walks of life, and accelerate the evolution and upgrading of production activities to digitalization, networking and intellectualization.
Hongqiao Railway Station is one of the most important and busiest transportation hubs in Asia. It sends more than 60 million passengers per year and the daily traffic is up to 330,000 passengers. As an important gateway to Shanghai, the station provides all aspects of experience that reflect the image of Shanghai.5G network can solve the needs of passengers such as high-speed internet access and high-definition video calls in the scenario of large passenger flow in railway stations. What's more, the city will further explore 5G enabled intelligent railway stations in the future, improve the management efficiency and railway systems, and improve their operation and service quality. At the ceremony, China Mobile(Shanghai) and Huawei demonstrated the network operation capability of 5G Indoor Digital System (up to 1.2Gbps peak speed) as well as the new lifestyle that may emerge in 5G era through interactive experience of intelligent robot direction and meal delivery.
Faced with the new era of 5G, Shanghai has abundant infrastructure and promising prospects. Enterprises like Huawei, ZTE and Nokia Bell all focus their research and development on 5G technology in Shanghai. It is reported that Huawei 5G DIS Indoor Digital System was developed in Shanghai. At the same time, the Municipal Government will work with universities and enterprises to promote the deep integration of 5G production and enhance the ability of independent innovation.
