On the afternoon of January 7th, Tesla Gigafactoryin Shanghai started construction at Liangang Industrial Zone. Li Qiang, Secretary of municipal Party committee, visited Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla. Ying Yong, Deputy Secretary and Mayor, was also present and announced the start of the project with Elon Musk.
On behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, Li Qiang congratulated the commencement of the project. He said, as China's largest economic center and the frontier of reform and opening-up, Shanghai is now studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech and devoting all efforts to three new major tasks. The city will always adhere to win-win development in open cooperation. Shanghai is an important city of automobile industry and fertile soil for the development of new energy vehicles. At present, the construction of intelligent network automobile innovation platform is accelerating.We support Tesla to further deepen cooperation and build a world-class automotive industry cluster with the opportunity of starting the project. Shanghai will continue to create a good environment and provide high-quality services to enable Chinese and foreign enterprises to achieve better development in Shanghai.
Ying Yong said that the Giga factory took less than half a year from signing the contract to starting construction, which was the result of close and efficient cooperation between the two teams. It also reflected the effect of optimizing the business environment and fully serving enterprises in Shanghai. It is hoped that the project will start smoothly, be completed and put into operation as soon as possible, and bring into play its actual effect. Shanghai will continue to support Tesla in speeding up the construction of an international first-class factory.
Elon Musk said that during the cooperation with Shanghai, Tesla fully felt the amazing speed of Shanghai, which was due to Shanghai's good business environment, and also reflected the city's determination and action to open to the world. The Giga factory will integrate Tesla's most advanced technology, the enterprise will strive to make it a leading international manufacturing model in innovation, efficiency, science and technology and environmental protection.

Tang Zhiping, Secretary-General of Municipal Government, were present at the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Chen Mingbo, Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization. Wu Jincheng, Vice Chairman, attended the ceremony. Ren Yuxiang, and Zhu Xiaotong, Global Vice President of Tesla were also present.
Tesla Giga factory signed a contract in July last year to settle at Lingang, integrating R&D, manufacturing and sales. The first annual production scale is 250,000 pure electric vehicles, including Model 3 and other series models. After the completion of the Giga factory, the annual output will gradually increase to 500,000 pure electric vehicles.
In recent years, Shanghai has been accelerating the construction of major industrial projects, a number of major industrial projects have started construction one after another.
