2018 World Artificial Intelligence Conference opened in Shanghai on September 17th. President Xi Jinping sent congratulation to the launch of the conference and warmly welcomed delegates from various countries, heads of international organizations, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs.
Mr. Xi pointed out in his congratulatory letter that a new generation of artificial intelligence is booming all over the world, injecting new energy into economic and social development, and profoundly changing people's production and lifestyle. To grasp this development opportunity and deal with the new issues of artificial intelligence in terms of law, security, employment, ethics and government governance, it is necessary for all countries to deepen cooperation and explore together. China is willing to work together with other countries in the field of AI to promote development, keep security and share results.
Mr. Xi stressed that as China is committed to achieving high-quality development, the application of AI will effectively improve the economic and social development of intelligence and well enhance public services and urban management capabilities. China is willing to exchange information and cooperate with other countries in technology, data sharing and application market, sharing opportunities of digital economy. It is hoped that the participants would focus on the theme of "A New Era Empowered by Artificial Intelligence", deepen exchange ideas and gather consensus to jointly promote Artificial Intelligence for mankind.
At the opening ceremony, Li Qiang, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, read out Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter and made a speech. He said that the congratulatory letter from President Xi pointed out the direction for us to promote the rapid and healthy development of artificial intelligence. Shanghai should grasp the opportunities and create an environment in a global and future-oriented perspective. What's more, it is important to and strive to create AI innovation strategy sources, application demonstrations, system supply and talent gathering highlands.
Liu He, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony and made a speech. He expressed that President Xi and the central government fully showed great importance to the conference and the development of artificial intelligence.AI in China has explored a unique path of demand-oriented business model innovation, market application backed basic theory and key technology innovation. For the next step, it is important to adhere to the demand-led development, strengthen basic research and infrastructure, stimulate the micro-subject innovation vitality, and vigorously strengthen personnel training. China is willing to make joint efforts with all countries in the world to make artificial intelligence develop in a direction beneficial to mankind.
2018 World Artificial Intelligence Conference is held from September 17 to 19, co-sponsored by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Internet Information Office, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Shanghai Municipal Government. Experts, scholars and entrepreneurs from nearly 40 countries and regions will communicate on technical frontiers, industrial trends and hotspot issues of AI. More than 200 leading AI enterprises will participate in forums and exhibitions.
