1. The inaugural day of the 17thChinaJoy witnessed over 100,000 visitors (8.5)

On August 4, Shanghai New International Expo Center was crowded by players who braved the heat and flooded to one of the most important game events this summer, that is, the 17th China Intl Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference (China Joy). It covered the area of 170,000 square meters and 15 exhibition halls gathered nearly 300 Chinese and international exhibitors. More than 1,000 top-notch games from all over the world and over 5,000 experimental game consoles were greeting the visitors. On the first day, the number of visitors exceeded 100,000, an increase of nearly 6,300 from last year.

 

2. The 3rdShanghai International Fashion Consumer Goods Expo launched(8.6)

From August 2nd to 4th, the 3rd Shanghai International Fashion Consumer Goods Expo was held at Shanghai Exhibition Center. Ruan Li, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, and Yu Guosheng, President of Shanghai Federation of Industrial Economics, attended the event.

 “Lao Feng Xiang”, “Aquarius”, “Chunghwa”, “Butterfly”, “SHZB”, “Meilin”, “Hero”, “Double Deer”, “Dunhuang”, “Biqisuo”, “Solid”, “Marley”, “Sanghai”, “Maxim”, “Jiuding”, “A-Zenith”, “M&G”, “Fayi”, “Best Way”, “Bee & Flower” and many other excellent brands of Shanghai’s light industry were shown along with newcomers of “White away, Laidlaw & Co., Ltd.”, “Biohyalux”, “Filippoberio”, “Iceason”, “Sinotrend” and “China Post”, while a number of fine products representing the image of China's affordable luxury brands were also unveiled, including “Casarte”, “PARDUS” and “Koncise”.

 

3. Shanghai Open Data Innovative Application Contest 2019unveiled (8.9)

Shanghai Open Data Innovative Application Contest 2019 was officially launched today. With the theme of “Innovative Data Application for Joyful Urban Life”, this year's competition focused on five tracks of Transportation, Environmental Protection, Health, Business and Urban Management and called for open data innovative applications from all over the world. In addition to the cash prizes amounting toRMB1 million, the organizing committee also provided the rewards of cloud computing resources of RMB1 million and incubation offices of RMB3 million for the winner. The contest will last from July to December.

 

4. Shanghai ranked No. 1 in the National Waste Classification Pilot Assessment in two consecutive quarters(9.21)

On August 20th, Shanghai Municipal CPPCC conducted a special inspection on the implementation of the “Regulations on the Management of Domestic Waste in Shanghai”. It is reported that in the first and second quarters of 2019, Shanghai ranked No. 1 in the assessment of 46 pilot cities executed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

In July, the effectiveness of the waste classification in Shanghai’s residential sources was further improved, which was rated 80% or above in five metrics of Communications and Notification, Traceability, Long-term Management and Classification Effectiveness. At present, the volume of recyclables recovered in Shanghai reaches 4,400 tons/day, 5 times higher than end 2018. The volume of wet waste has reached 8,200 tons/day, 110% higher than end 2018. And the volume of dry waste is controlled below 17,000 tons/day, 21% lower than end 2018.

 

5. The Governance Forum of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2019 discussed the innovative governance of AI (8.30)

At the Governance Forum of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2019 held on August 29th, the Youth Researchers Group released the "Shanghai Declaration of Chinese Young Scientists on Innovative Governance of Artificial Intelligence in 2019", emphasizing that the development of AI shall adhere to ethical, safety, legal and social responsibilities. It demonstrates the role and mission of Chinese young scientists to participate in and drive the ethical development of global AI.
