On June 16th, the foundation laying ceremony for the 400,000-ton INVISTA adiponitrile production base was held at Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone. The total investment of the project is more than RMB7 billion, which is dedicated to meet the growing demand for nylon 6,6 chemical intermediates in China and the Asia Pacific region. Relevant leaders were present, including Wu Qing, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor, Chen Mingbo, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal Government, Wu Jincheng, Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Lu Ming, Deputy Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, and Ma Jing, Director of Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone Management Committee.

Jeff Gentry, Chairman and CEO of INVISTA, delivered a speech through video. Kyle Redinger, Vice President of INVISTA Nylon Intermediates Business in Asia Pacific, and Gary Knight, Vice president of INVISTA Nylon Operations in Asia and Europe, were present.

Ma Jing said that with the efforts of all parties, INVISTA adiponitrile project successfully started in only 10 months, reflecting the speed of chemical projects. The project has high technology content and green processes, which will change the current reliance of imported adiponitrile in China, improve the market competitiveness of INVISTA, enrich the product chain of the chemical industry zone, and improve the high-end level of Shanghai’s chemical industry. Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone will continue to solve the problems encountered in project promotion as soon as possible, and ensure early completion, production and effectiveness.

INVISTA expressed that with a view to the growing demand for high-quality nylon products in China and the Asia Pacific region and relying on the continuously optimized business environment in Shanghai, INVISTA is confident in its continuous investment in Shanghai. Thanks to the full support of all parties, the project was carried out orderly and steadily. Since the construction is officially started, the company is confident that it will be put into operation in 2020.After the completion of the project, Shanghai will have a complete industrial chain from adiponitrile to high-performance polymer and become the largest nylon 6,6 comprehensive production base in the world.

Adiponitrile is an intermediate chemical used to produce nylon 6,6.The adiponitrile production base of INVISTA will use its most advanced and energy-saving technology to meet the strong demand of the Chinese market. After completion, the project will be integrated with the existing production base of hexanediamine and polymer of INVISTA to directly provide customers in China and Asia Pacific region with nylon 6, 6 and other key basic materials of high-value products, which are used in automobile industry, electrical and electronic industry, as well as other consumers and industrial products. These products can achieve the advantages of light weight, heat resistance and durable through downstream design, so as to improve people's quality of life.
