6. The daily production capacity of masks in Shanghai is reported as 1.8 million pieces, while the shortage is merely temporary (1.27)

With the spread of pneumonia caused by the new corona virus, masks became the first defense. The market was suddenly out of stock and some retailers coerced prices and caused panic. Hospitals, security units and Shanghai residents were in need of masks. The reporter learned today from Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization that, after investigation, the current daily production capacity of masks in Shanghai is more than 1.8 million pieces, while the shortage is temporary due to the Chinese New Year holiday.

As the vast majority of 26 producers in Shanghai have stopped production, workers have returned to their hometowns and both raw materials and logistics have been suspended. The grim situation is testing Shanghai’s industrial system. Through in-depth coordination of enterprises and production, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization has opened up express channels to help solve production problems and difficulties such as the supply of raw materials and strive to resume work early and continue production.
